PREGNANCY CARE

Pregnancy

Treatment during pregnancy can be useful in allowing the body to adapt with the rapid changes of a woman's body during the growth of the baby.

Our Osteopaths are trained to provide treatment and pregnancy care throughout your pregnancy from conception to birth and beyond. We treat using specific pregnancy suitable techniques to assist with the changing body throughout pregnancy. We utilise belly pillows for lying face down and when necessary and safe to do so, and sidelying treatments with lots of cushions to assist with comfort during the treatment.

Some of our practitioners have more extensive training to assist with birth preparation, pelvic floor health, and assessment of abdominal separation (DRAMS) post birth and assisting with post partum recovery, including tailored rehab programs that are suitable for each week of your post partum.

Pregnancy and Post-Partum Related Symptoms We May Be Able To Assist With:
  • pelvic instability
  • pubic pain
  • lower back pain
  • upper thoracic and cervical pain, including cervicogenic headaches
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
  • swelling in the lower limbs and feet
  • reflux and indigestion
  • pelvic floor weakness or overactivity
  • incontinence
  • prolapse
  • mastitis

Is It Ok To Have Osteopathic Treatment During Pregnancy?

Absolutely! We recommend that you come in early in the pregnancy if you are experiencing pain or discomfort, early intervention using carefully selected hands on techniques and exercise prescription appropriate for your stage of pregnancy, can assist with comfort throughout the pregnancy and a better preparation for birth and beyond.

Should I Have An Osteopathic Trea tment Following The Birth Of My Newborn?

We often recommend a follow up appointment after the birth of your baby at approximately 4-6 weeks for a check in with pelvic floor, abdominal separation and address any post partum strains in the body.

We also address the mechanical changes in your body that occurred during pregnancy, to assist with healing and recovery after birth.

Will compression garments help in my recovery?

Short answer is YES!
